Talking Points is a video intended to demonstrate key verbal and non-verbal interaction skills of providers, based on a social-interactionist approach to facilitating early language and literacy learning with young children in an inclusive preschool setting. Vignettes that illustrate developmentally responsive interactions by teachers during interactive storybook reading and play are presented in contrast to interactions that stop the conversation rather than facilitate engagement of children in learning tasks. The Talking Points self-reflection tool provides viewers a strategy to assess their own talk as early care and education providers and enhance their own communication skills with young children.
